Master Thesis, internship New York

During my internship in New York I had to complete my master’s thesis. This meant that I had to come to a suitable assignment together with my internship company. For my master’s thesis I designed the lobby of the Moxy hotel in Richmond Virginia. Moxy is part of the large hotel chain Marriot. Moxy is hip, trendy and aimed at “millennials”. The design had to be attractive for the ‘next-gen’ traveler, fit in the alley of Moxy, but certainly also in the area in which the hotel is located. After doing good research I came up with 3 completely different concepts.

Concept: Richmond is at the fall line of the James River. It’s near the coast and close enough to the mountains. That’s why outdoor living is important to the city and the people living in it. The James River is an iconic part of the city and there are a million ways to experience it such as kayaking, canoeing and river rafting. Being close to the sea and the mountains makes people want to explore and be in nature. This is what inspired me for concept 1; Bringing the outdoor living, inside. Moxy is a millennial-focused brand, millennials are all about travelling and exploring. That’s why an adventurous and sturdy lobby would fit for the Moxy hotel in Richmond.

After fully developing the concept, I started the complete 3D visualization. Floor plan, visuals and renders. I am very satisfied with the end result and I was able to work on this project with great pleasure and completed it with high school results.
